I came across a rather hot piece of news today. Local celebrity Quan Yi Feng (okay actually, she's from Taiwan) kicked a taxi driver in the groin!
According to the New Paper:
1. 26th June : Cabby picked up a man in his 30s on East Coast Road around 8pm. The man instructed him to go to a condo on Nallur Road first, and then head to the airport.
2. Quan & her 11 year-old daughter were at the first destination. She ordered the cabby to carry her luggage into the trunk, but he told her to do it herself. The cabby later claimed that it was because his hands were hurting. Anyway, she was probably being rude, irking him with her arrogance.
3. Quan fumed: "What kind of service is this?" Actually, taxi drivers are just in charge of driving customers to their destination, helping to carry luggages is an extra and optional service.
4. Quan then behaved in an "uncontrollable manner" towards him after boarding the taxi. Her male friend sat beside the cabby while she and her daughter sat at the back. I'm wondering who this male friend is. Lover?
5. The cabby asked Quan which road they would like to take to the airport and she replied: "Are you from Malaysia? Changi airport also don't know how to go?" Hmm, I sense a little discrimination... In my experience, almost every taxi driver will ask you which road you want to take to your destination, probably because they want to avoid situations where the customer accuses them of taking a longer route which would cost them more money.
6. Quan threatened to lodge a complaint against the cabby and hit him whith her mobile phone.
7. The cabby stopped at a traffic light and Quan jolted forward. The cabby claims that she didn't wear a seat belt. She then accused him of braking "on purpose" and he retorted: "You should know you have to put on a seat belt when you're in a car." Why in the world would the cabby brake violently on purpose? That would be risking his own safety and life as well.
8. Quan started shouting Hokkien vulgarities at him and continued to hit him. For me, as soon as someone starts spouting vulgarities, I'd have a very negative impression of the person. Criticism and appropriate lecturing is okay, but vulgarities? If the cabby's account is true, Quan must have been a bit mad to keep hitting him. A car accident might have occurred.
9. The cabby stopped at a junction of Upper East Coast Road & Bedok South Avenue 1, getting out "for safety's sake".
10. EPIC: Quan exited the cab as well, confronted him and kicked him in the groin. I always thought you only kick a guy where it hurts most when he tries to take advantage of you or you're trying to make a quick escape. Poor cabby, it must have hurt.
11. Quan then took his keys to the cab, locking herself inside. (It is not known if her friend and daughter were also in the taxi at that time.) She then went on a 15 minute rampage, breaking his stereo and taxi meter. She also tore up his calender, emptied a bottle of soft drink inside and overturned the money box. What is wrong with her?! Barbaric.
12. The taxi was a mess after that, with coins, notes and pieces of the calender strewn over the front seats. The cabby tried taking a photo of her using his mobile phone and when Quan saw that, she made the V for victory hand sign at him. Like a teenage gangster thinking he's so cool and thrashing someone.
13. The cabby called the police for assistance but before they arrived, Quan unlocked the door and got out. She grabbed his phone and threw it on the ground. Her daughter started crying and a crowd had gathered. Typical kay poh Singaporeans :D
14. Quan told onlookers that she had "been hit" by the cabby. Aha...
15. The trio took their luggage out, hailed another taxi and left before police arrived. The cabby said she did not return his keys.
Turns out Quan has been embroiled in a lot of similar controversial cases.
January 2008: contractor accuses Quan of making an obscene sign and spewing vulgarities at him, upset because he drove too slowly. Quan claimed that he had provoked her.
2006: owner of a car workshop said she was rude and uttered vulgarities when she went to get her car repaired there. Quan claimed that the other party was the rude one.
1996: Quan got into a fight with a bowling alley attendant and got fined $1000.
1996: Quan was caught driving without a licence and caused an accident. She was fined $1300.
Seems like Quan Yi Feng's mouth isn't very clean and she speaks unpleasantly. But you have to admit that she's a rather good host on TV. Still, personality is important! I think I don't like her after all, but it doesn't matter. I just heard that wan3 bao4 reported her response to the taxi driver's accusations. She even publicised photos of her and her daughter's injuries! I only saw the cover page but it showed her in a bra with abrasions on her back and a bruise on her daughter's forehead. I heard she's overseas now.
