Phase 1: The meeting.
First impressions are the basis of this phase. We all try our best to appear as amiable and nice as possible to the other person. How many people can honestly say that we are 100% ourselves during this phase? I guess that's why it's always said that first impressions don't really count.
Phase 2: Let's go out!
Soon after exchanging contact numbers and adding each other on Facebook, we arrange to meet up with these newly made friends, either to go shopping or attend a festival. It's usually fun and everything is fresh. There's a lot of laughter and we're really considerate to one another. "What do you wanna eat?" "Oh you can decide, I'm fine with anything."
This is the part where you get to know more about your friends. They tell you about their past, possibly their philosophical beliefs. And maybe, just maybe, they tell you some secrets about themselves - who they have a crush on, how they really feel about a particular person, etc. Usually, so do we. Knowing someone's secrets always makes you feel closer to them. Some kind of bond has been formed, and you feel obliged to be there for them. You want to be good friends with them and you want the friendship to last long.
You realise that these friends aren't really those nice people you thought them to be at the start. All of a sudden, their flaws are glaring brightly and you think to yourself: "Their true colours are now showing.". You wonder if you really want friends like these. They may do some things which make you feel used and taken advantage of. They make cruel fun of you and go overboard with their jokes. Sometimes you feel as if you seriously can't stand them. Every single bad thing they do irritates you to the maximum. This is when things lead to two possible outcomes, the first being that you simply just drift away from them. On the other hand, you could stick things through with them, and that would result in reaching Phase 5.
We all have flaws. We have our rude, angst-filled and cold moments. Not everyone is tactful enough when it comes to asking for help, and this often leads to situations which seem like one party is taking advantage of the other. However, if you really think about it, when are true friends ever calculative about who gives more and who gives less? Teasing among friends is normal and once you become true friends, an understanding is formed between all parties; no matter how uncalled for and unnecessary those pranks, it's all for some good fun, you don't mean to hurt one another.
And now, you have made true friends who will be there for you through thick and thin. Surely there's gonna be all that drama where you get into more disagreements, quarrel and become unhappy with one another. But everytime you get over such discords, your friendship grows stronger. People may say that if you glue back a shattered mirror, the cracks are still visible. But nothing is perfect in this world. As long as we're all sincere, these minor flaws won't even matter.
Phase 3: Exchanging stories.
Phase 4: So this is who you really are.
You realise that these friends aren't really those nice people you thought them to be at the start. All of a sudden, their flaws are glaring brightly and you think to yourself: "Their true colours are now showing.". You wonder if you really want friends like these. On the other hand, you could stick things through with them, and that would result in reaching Phase 5.
Phase 5: You're imperfect, but you're my friend.
We all have flaws. We have our rude, angst-filled and cold moments.
